
Carsten Søndergaard has a long and distinguished career in the Danish Foreign Service. He has been ambassador to Turkey (1999-2001), Germany (2005-2010), NATO (2010-2014), Ireland (2014-2018) and most recently Russia (2018-2022).
He has also been posted to the Danish embassies in Washington DC and London.
The focus throughout his career has been on issues related to European Security.
After retirement from the Foreign Service, he acts as a consultant in the financial sector and spend some time writing and making speeches. He is an advisor to the Danish Foreign Policy Society.
Carsten Søndergaard holds a MA in political science from the University of Aarhus, Denmark.
