Vice Admiral Louise K. Dedichen has served as the Norwegian Military Representative to NATO since 1 January 2020, following her appointment on 21 June 2019. She previously served as Commandant of the Norwegian Defence University College (NDUC), where she oversaw the most comprehensive restructuring of national military education in modern times. Under her leadership, all officer and NCO schools were merged into a joint university college serving all branches of the Norwegian Armed Forces, creating a unified institution for advanced military education and research.
Dedichen began her military career at the Royal Norwegian Naval Academy and attended Norway’s Naval College (1983–1987). She gained seagoing experience aboard HNoMS Trondheim as paymaster and held positions in the Defence Logistic Organisation, the Defence Staff, and the Ministry of Defence, including service as spokesperson to the Chief of Defence and two Ministers of Defence. She was appointed Commodore in 2006 and Rear Admiral in 2008, becoming the first female officer in Norway to reach OF7 level. Dedichen received the French Ordre national du Mérite in 2011 for her role in strengthening cooperation between Norway and France, and has been widely recognized for her initiatives beyond operational duties. She was awarded the Chief of Defence’s prize for equality in 2014 for advocating gender equality in the armed forces and launched programs to engage women and civilians in defence and security education. She also developed the Next Step program for military veterans and Olympic athletes, facilitating their transition into second careers, a model praised by the International Olympic Committee.
