
Mats E. Sather is the CEO and a shipping lawyer at Nordisk (www.nordisk.no), which is a specialized legal services organisation for the international shipping industry established in 1889.
He regularly advises on sanctions compliance, maritime risk, dark fleet issues, and the war risks facing shipping in the current geopolitical environment. He is a frequent speaker on these subjects, as well as on broader geopolitical developments affecting the maritime sector. Combining deep legal expertise with extensive knowledge of shipping, maritime commerce, and maritime history, he brings a broad commercial and geopolitical perspective to his work.
Sather is also a member of Nortraship, the organisation responsible for maritime preparedness for the Norwegian merchant fleet. Nordisk’s lawyers also served in Nortraship during the Second World War, when it handled the operation of the Norwegian merchant fleet in Allied service.
His practice covers all aspects of shipping and marine insurance law. He has appeared before the Supreme Court of Norway and has acted as arbitrator in shipping disputes. He also teaches maritime law at the Scandinavian Institute of Maritime Law at the University of Oslo.
