
Yves Boyer holds a doctorate in Political Science (University of Paris II Panthéon-Sorbonne) and is a graduate of the Institut d’Études Politiques de Paris (ScPo).
After working at the Société Française d’Exportation d’Armements and later at the General Secretariat of National Defence in Paris, he was successively research associate at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (London), the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars (Washington), the French Institute of International Relations (IFRI), the CREST-École Polytechnique of which he was one of the founders, and the Fondation pour la Recherche Stratégique(FRS) of which he was deputy director.
Emeritus professor at the oldest and most prestigious Grande École in France, the École polytechnique (chair of the international relations course), he has also taught at ScPo Paris, ENA, the École Spéciale Militaire (Saint-Cyr) and at the MGIMO (Moscow).
He has published, both in France and abroad, many articles and chaired or contributed to various reports (Conseil Scientifique de la Défense, Délégation aux Affaires Stratégiques, Direction Générale de l’Armement -French MoD- ; Direction des Affaires Militaires (Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique) ; European Parliament ; Bertelsmann Foundation ; Atlantic Council of the US ; etc.
Chairman of the Board of the Annuaire Français de Relations Internationales, he is a member of the editorial boards of Questions Internationales and Revue Défense Nationale. He is co-editor with Julian Lindley-French of the Oxford Handbook of War (Oxford University Press).
Yves BOYER is a Knight in the Order of the Légion d’Honneur and a Knight of the Palmes académiques.
