Ambassador Zekeriya Akcam

Zekeriya Akçam (born 1968, Çukurçayır, Savaştepe, Balıkesir) is a Turkish politician and diplomat.

He graduated in 1990 from the Faculty of Political Science at Ankara University. He earned a master’s degree from the School of International Service at American University in Washington, D.C. Over the course of his career, Akçam has held a range of academic, governmental, and parliamentary positions. He worked as a researcher at the United States Library of Congress and served as a research assistant in the Department of International Relations at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Kırıkkale University. He later worked as an expert at the Undersecretariat of Foreign Trade within the Office of the Prime Minister of Türkiye.

Akçam served as a Member of Parliament for İzmir during the 22nd term of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye. In addition to his parliamentary duties, he was a member of Türkiye’s delegations to several international and European institutions, including the European Convention, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and the Interparliamentary European Security and Defence Assembly of the Western European Union.

On 14 March 2012, Akçam assumed office as Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to the Republic of Indonesia. He served in this role until 31 May 2016. Following the completion of his ambassadorship, he became a member of the Board of Directors of the Türkiye Maarif Foundation, which was established in 2016.
